Announcing Three Cab100 Visual Exhibitions :
“The CAB100 Centennial Exhibition”,
The CAB100 “Hep to the Jive” Fine are Exhibit,
and the “CAB 100 Digital Gallery” for Young People.
Developed conjunction with our partners The Office of the Manhattan Borough President – New York , the The Open Museum Digital Galleries – New York , Young Audiences of Maryland and The Eubie Blake Museum - Baltimore Maryland
1) “The CAB100 Centennial Exhibition” Overview:
“CAB100 Centennial Exhibit” is a Visual Historical Journey displaying 32 rarely viewed Photographic images along with revealing artifacts and an illustrative time line. Several digital slide shows reveal the form and content of the Calloway legacy,
Photos originated from the Crite House Museum , the Family Archive, and The Baltimore Afro Newspaper Archive the collection of the Eubie Blake Museum the Maryland Historical Society. The Coppin State College Cab Calloway Collection and other private collections. Photographers featured include Milt Hinton, John Murphy III, Peter Cabel Brooks, Kim Van Do, Annemiek Gersten, Lotus Do Brooks and many others,
The photographs, taken of Cab Calloway and his Orchestra and of the Cab Calloway Orchestra directed by his grandson Calloway Brooks reveal many perspective of the Calloway legacy. Many photographs include famous celebrities in candid behind the scenes movie set photos, backstage photos, on the road views, musical transcripts with the notes of famous performers, references to the Cotton Club, items from the 30's and other great artifacts.
2) The CAB100 ‘Hep to the Jive' Fine Art Exhibition
Fine Art images inspired by Cab Calloway the man and his music created for CAB100 by Professional Artists Including the work of I. Shultz, A, Singer, Johnetta Tinker, Kim Van Do, Al Preciado, Alison Hyder, Martha Bloom, Marcia Lloyd, Debra Newman and others.
Professional artists who wish to submit Calloway inspired works for consideration in the Juried Portion of this exhibition may download the submission sheet for guidelines from CAB100.com. In this expressive exhibit Artists are invited to create images illuminating their impressions of Cab Calloway on his centennial. An artist statement, materials list, and insurance waiver accompany each artwork submission.
3) The CAB100 Digital Gallery fir Young People
Developed in conjunction with The Open Museum Project in NY and hosted by CAB100.com. Students develop their understanding of Cab Calloway and gain recognition through Cab 100 visual awards. Teachers are invited to submit their students' work and may download guidelines for submissions from CAB100.com. The Cab 100 Digital Student Gallery will feature Cab Calloway inspired original artwork by Young People from across the United States including works submitted by Young audiences of Maryland , The National Academy Museum School of Fine Art, The Dalton School. The School of Visual Art New York City , The Mano a Mano Program New York City , New York City Public Schools
